A chieftain of the Labour Party in Imo State, Chief Emeka Ahaneku, has expressed confidence that the party is strategically positioning itself to achieve another major electoral breakthrough in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking to journalists recently, Chief Ahaneku stated that the ongoing restructuring within the party is aimed at strengthening its internal structures and ensuring greater unity among members ahead of the next national polls.
He also described the Governor of Abia State, Chief Alex Otti, as a leader of strong character and a prominent figure representing the new face of the Labour Party. According to him, Governor Otti’s leadership style and performance have further reinforced the party’s credibility and capacity to deliver effective governance.
Chief Ahaneku, who previously contested the Mbaitoli State Constituency seat in the Imo State House of Assembly under the platform of the Labour Party, maintained that the party remains united and resilient despite recent internal challenges.
He noted that the issues experienced within the party were largely influenced by external forces concerned about the Labour Party’s growing popularity and the remarkable impact it made during the 2023 general elections.
“Our party remains intact and continues to grow stronger. We have successfully overcome internal challenges that were largely orchestrated by those who view the Labour Party as a major political threat ahead of the 2027 elections,” he stated.
Chief Ahaneku further remarked that the Labour Party’s performance in the 2023 elections significantly reshaped Nigeria’s political landscape and demonstrated the growing support for the party among Nigerians.
He emphasized that the party is now focused on rebuilding and strengthening its structures through a bottom-up approach, enabling grassroots members to play a more active role in shaping the party’s direction and leadership.
“With visionary leadership and strong personalities such as Governor Alex Otti, there is no leadership vacuum in the party. We are committed to restructuring the Labour Party from the grassroots upward to ensure members take ownership of the party’s affairs,” he added.
Chief Ahaneku expressed optimism that with renewed unity, strategic organisation, and continued public support, the Labour Party is well positioned to build on the momentum of the 2023 elections and achieve even greater success in 2027.
